What is a chipped tooth?
A chipped tooth is when a portion of enamel comes off a tooth.
What causes a chipped tooth?
A blow to the face can result in a force so great that it dislodges a portion of enamel from a tooth. As we age, enamel becomes weaker, which can make biting down on hard foods or foreign objects more likely to cause a chip. Cavities, a high acid diet, enamel erosion, age-related wear and teeth grinding can all cause weakened enamel.
