Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are the perfect option for patients who wish to keep their teeth straightening journey a secret. They sit on the tongue side of your teeth, completely out of the eyesight of others. They’re often described as ‘invisible braces’.

Lingual braces are the gold standard in fixed brace designs. Each bracket fits on the back of each tooth instead of your front teeth, and these are customised for your mouth. The brackets are smaller than those used with standard fixed braces and, therefore, less obtrusive in your mouth.

The efficacy of lingual braces is unrivalled, and they produce results quickly, so you will be able to see the change in your teeth very early on. The lightweight materials used to make your custom lingual brace will be comfortable and easy to get used to from the moment your brace is fitted. One of the great advantages of lingual braces is patients won’t have any speech difficulties once they are fitted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I suitable for lingual braces?

Lingual braces are versatile; they can tackle just about any alignment or bite problem. They may only be unsuitable if you have an extremely deep overbite, which may require surgery.

What impact does teeth straightening have on my oral health?

The effect teeth straightening has on a person’s oral health can be forgotten, as people tend to focus on the cosmetic advantages of treatment. Moving teeth into a healthier position with fixed lingual braces not only results in teeth that are easier to floss and brush but also reduces the possibility of tooth wear and pain related to having a poor bite.

Put simply; straighter teeth are happier teeth.

Does every dental practice offer lingual braces?

We are one of the few dental practices in our area to offer lingual braces. This area of orthodontics is complex and requires specific training and equipment. We are very pleased to be offering lingual braces, as patients who have complex orthodontic problems and who want the most discreet brace available have an option that ticks these boxes.

Can lingual braces be used to straighten my front teeth only?

It’s entirely possible to correct issues that only affect your front teeth with lingual braces. We can discuss this with you during your consultation appointment.

How long does the treatment take?

This is dependent on your individual needs. Straightening front teeth for mainly aesthetic purposes can take 6 months. Meanwhile, more involved treatment can last in the region of 12 – 18 months.

What are the advantages of choosing lingual braces?

  • Customisation and comfort: they are designed specifically for your teeth, making them easy to get used to.
  • Aesthetics: placed on the back of the teeth – virtually invisible.
  • Protect your teeth: no risk of decalcification to the front surface of the teeth.
  • Fast-acting: you will notice results early on.

Why doesn’t every orthodontist offer lingual braces?

Lingual orthodontics is a complex field that requires special training and technology. Here at Denmark Street Dental, we’re fortunate to have the talents of orthodontists who have the advanced qualifications and accomplishments to offer lingual braces.

How often will I need to come in to have a check-up?

You will need to come in every 6 to 8 weeks to have your brace adjusted and to allow your orthodontist to monitor your teeth’s movement.

Will lingual braces give me a lisp?

You may notice you have a slight lisp in the first few days of having your braces fitted. As they are very easy to get used to, you should notice this disappear very early on during your treatment.

How much does the treatment cost?

Treatment typically ranges in cost from £1,500 to £5,000, with the final price largely influenced by the degree of dental movement needed. This cost can differ significantly among patients based on their individual treatment requirements.

Do you offer finance for dental treatment?

Yes, we offer interest-free and interest-bearing finance so that high-quality dental care is accessible to all our patients.

I’m embarrassed about coming in – can you help?

We understand that coming in to seek implant-based treatments is a huge life event. Our clinicians are compassionate people who encounter many patients who feel self-conscious about the condition of their mouths. We understand how debilitating lost teeth can be, particularly on your confidence levels and your everyday happiness. Who performs my treatment?

Multiple members of the Denmark Street Dental clinical team will be involved in the planning and treating your dental care. This includes dentists, dental nurses, dental technicians and sedation dentists, who work seamlessly together to deliver predictable results.

Can you offer sedation?
