Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers are famous for looking virtually identical to real teeth. Veneers cover a tooth like a false fingernail. They fit over a tooth’s whole front surface and shield aesthetic flaws with individual teeth, ranging from cracks and chips to unevenly shaped teeth and teeth that have become discoloured.

Dental veneers are thin, tooth-coloured shells that are attached to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. These cosmetic solutions address various issues, including chips, fractures, discolouration, or teeth that are smaller than typical dimensions.

Typically crafted from porcelain or resin-composite substances, dental veneers are securely bonded to the teeth, ensuring durability and a natural look. While some individuals may opt for a single veneer to repair a damaged tooth, it is common for patients to receive a set of six to eight veneers to achieve a harmonious and balanced smile. The upper front eight teeth are the primary focus for veneer application, as they play a crucial role in the overall appearance of one’s smile.

What is the process?

Our team will initially undergo a smile design process with you, whereby we will understand exactly how you would like your smile to look, taking into consideration your facial features. Using a combination of digital scans, impressions, study models and smile computer technology, we will then show you how your smile will look. Only once you are 100% happy with how your smile will look will we then move on to the treatment phase.

During the treatment phase, the team will prepare your teeth by cleaning them, after which an etching gel is used to roughen the surface.

Prior to receiving your veneers, you will have an initial consultation with your dentist to explore the various options available and determine the number of veneers you wish to have applied. In certain situations, if your teeth are misaligned or irregularly shaped, orthodontic treatment such as braces may be necessary before the veneers can be installed.

During this preliminary appointment, your dentist will typically conduct X-rays to assess the overall health of your teeth. They will check for any indications of tooth decay, gum disease, or the potential need for root canal therapy. If any of these issues are present, you may not qualify for veneer placement.

At your subsequent visit, your dentist will prepare your teeth for the veneers by carefully removing approximately half a millimetre of enamel using a specialised grinding tool. This step is crucial for ensuring a proper fit. Following this, a mould or impression of your teeth will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory, where your custom veneers will be fabricated.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of problems can porcelain veneers address?

Porcelain veneers are versatile, addressing the following issues:

  • Broken teeth.
  • Chipped teeth.
  • Cracked and fractured teeth.
  • Discolouration with individual teeth.
  • Small gaps between your teeth can be closed.
  • Misshapen teeth.

Why are porcelain veneers so special?

Porcelain veneers are superior to composite veneers for restoring unsightly teeth. Porcelain is the closest match to real tooth enamel, capturing its translucency almost perfectly.

Porcelain Veneers are a long-lasting solution that looks completely natural.

Can I have more than a single tooth treated with a veneer?

Yes. We can perform a smile makeover with veneers to improve the appearance of your whole smile. This involves using digital planning software to capture the precise measurements of your mouth. We can then work to design individual veneers that will sit together to create a proportioned, healthy-looking and aesthetic result.

Can porcelain veneers make my teeth straighter?

Mild cases of crooked and misaligned teeth can be solved with veneers. However, if you wish to make a more significant difference to the way your teeth sit in your mouth, you may wish to consider our orthodontic treatment options here at Denmark Street Dental.

Can porcelain veneers whiten my teeth?

Porcelain veneers go beyond teeth whitening treatment in their ability to whiten your teeth. If you are looking for the whitest shade possible for your teeth, we recommend opting for porcelain veneers.

Who is a suitable candidate for porcelain veneers?

You will need to meet the following criteria prior to having porcelain veneers:

  • Healthy teeth and gums.
  • X-ray to check the supporting structures in your mouth are healthy.
  • No missing teeth or restorations (crowns and veneers) or failing fillings.
  • No substantial gaps between your teeth.
  • No considerable structural damage to individual teeth (must have no more than a quarter of a tooth missing).
  • Relatively well-aligned teeth.

How do porcelain veneers and composite veneers compare?

Porcelain veneers are the premium choice of the two treatments. However, we recommend composite veneers as an entry-level treatment for patients who have not had a veneer before. Composite is also more suitable when there is less damage present, as it is not as restorative as porcelain veneers.

Unlike composite veneers, porcelain veneers are not prone to staining. However, you will still need to adhere to a healthy diet if you wish to keep your veneer in good condition for a number of years.

What does the porcelain veneer treatment journey involve?

Your porcelain veneers are created by taking photographs and scans of your teeth. You will be shown a state-of-the-art 3D model of what your smile will look like once the porcelain veneers have been fitted (this is what makes the outcome so predictable). During the design phase, we will make any necessary adjustments to the shape and shade and make sure you are happy with the proposed cosmetic outcome.

When your porcelain veneer has been created by our talented cosmetic dental technician, we will ask you to come in and see us so that the adhesive can be applied. To place the porcelain veneer, we will need to remove some natural tooth structure so that there is sufficient surface area to place it over the top. Your Porcelain Veneer is then firmly adhered to the tooth.

Do you offer finance for dental treatment?

Yes, we offer interest-free and interest-bearing finance so that high-quality dental care is accessible to all our patients.
