What is dental anxiety?
Dental anxiety is defined as a fear of the dentist. For certain people, this can mean feelings of nervousness when attending the dentist. However, in cases where dental phobia is extreme, patients may physically not be able to bring themselves to attend at all.
If this sounds familiar to you, please remember that it’s never too late to start on a fresh path towards saying goodbye to being afraid of the dentist. Here at Denmark Street Dental, we go above and beyond to help patients who need a bit of a helping hand to manage and overcome their fear of the dentist.
What causes dental anxiety?
Dental anxiety is most commonly caused by a negative past experience at the dentist. It might be that you were rushed or were not made to feel relaxed and at ease. Experiences where you have been in pain or discomfort during a dentist visit may also have left you with an unfavourable perception of the dentist.
